Getting Started with FreeStyle Football 2

Platforms, nickname rules, tutorial, specs, and the first 5v5 queue before launch.

Getting Started

FreeStyle Football 2 is still upcoming. WOORE is building it in Unreal Engine 5, JOYCITY is publishing it, and the retail SKU is a premium paid game, not a free-to-play client. Xbox Game Pass Day One is promised at launch, with Season Pass, DLC, and cosmetics planned around that paid box. If you are reading this before 4 September 2026, your real job is to be ready for the Prime Open Beta Test, not to hunt a store page that pretends the full game is already on shelves.

Platforms and how you get in

The supported platforms are PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox PC, and Steam (app 4004820). Full cross-play is a core promise, which is why Prime OBT exists as a final validation window. Easy Anti-Cheat runs on PC. You can use keyboard and mouse or a controller on Steam; consoles are pad-first. Check System Requirements before you download a hefty UE5 build, and skim Editions if you are trying to understand Basic versus Deluxe talk around launch. The June 2026 demo already ran 10 to 22 June during Steam Next Fest, and two closed betas ran earlier in 2026. Those tests are useful film, not a live service you can log into today.

Prime OBT is scheduled 4 to 8 September 2026: PDT 4 September 04:00 through 7 September 18:00, which is CEST 4 September 13:00 through 8 September 03:00. Access during that window is expected through Steam, Xbox, and PlayStation. Treat official posts on freestylefootball2.com and the Links Hub as the source of truth if a store listing lags.

Nickname, tutorial, and first login

On Steam, your nickname must be 3 to 16 characters using letters, numbers, hyphen, and underscore. The first nickname cannot be changed, so do not lock a joke you will hate in ranked screenshots. After login, play the tutorial all the way through. Testers repeatedly called it good. It teaches passing, shooting, sliding, and the idea that you control one character, not a whole team. Skip it and you will waste a live half learning what the practice pitch already showed.

Once the tutorial is done, queue a match. Unlike the original FreeStyle Football, you do not pick a character before you search. The game finds a match first, then the lobby opens a list. Players claim characters in list order. There are no duplicate characters on a team. If you hesitate, someone else takes Butter or Queen Swift and you are staring at a defender. That is not a punishment; it is the design. Read How to Play so you know what a midfielder is supposed to do when the forward you wanted is gone.

Currency, lounge, and what not to rush

The in-game currency is Riyal (some press writes Reyal). The demo started with six characters and two more unlockable through Riyal. Do not empty the wallet on the first cosmetic you see. Lounge conversations use a Favor Gauge; talk, raise favor, and sign a contract to recruit. Slots reset after matches, so a short conversation between queues is the efficient loop. Story content and the full recruitment fantasy are covered in the Story Mode Guide. During tests, treat Lounge as optional homework after you can complete a match without panic.

Launch is promised with 12 characters. Closed beta showed seven, including Sanchez, Butter, Mukamba, Tarantula, Queen Swift, Jelly, and Chris. QRI (Curie) is street dancer Kwon Gyuri, and Lena is slated as a Prime OBT newcomer. Use the Players Hub and the Tier List as living notes, not as a finished meta. The Guides Hub indexes the rest of these tutorials.

Hardware and settings before you queue

Official PC minimum: Windows 10 64-bit, Core i5-9400 or Ryzen 5 3500X, 16 GB RAM, GTX 1650 or RX 6400, DirectX 12, 60 GB. Recommended: Windows 11, Core i5-12400 or Ryzen 5 5600, 16 GB RAM, RTX 2070 or RX 5700, 60 GB. If you are under those numbers, do not spend the first night fighting frame time on a desert pitch. Cap the frame rate, drop extra effects, and keep input consistent. Camera complaints showed up in every test; start on the default broadcast angle and only experiment after you can hit a simple pass under pressure. Bindings and jockey notes are on Match Controls.

Finding people and playing the first night

Solo queue will teach you the rules. It will not teach you shape. Join the official Discord, ask for a five, and agree who picks first in the character list. Ranked and Clubs explains the longer plan: divisions, merchandising, and companion-app fantasy leagues. For night one, you only need five people who will talk. Play two matches as a defender even if you came for forwards. You will learn spacing, intercept timing, and how the AI keeper covers the near post. Then play a match on whatever pitch loads and skim Maps and Pitches afterward so the next Route 66 or New York spawn is not a surprise.

When Prime OBT opens, the first-hour script is short: lock a nickname you can live with, finish the tutorial, queue, pick in list order, and complete one match without burning both Freestyle Moves in the opening minute. Everything else on this wiki is optional until that loop is clean.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers for Agents heading into Prime OBT and launch.

Can I change my Steam nickname later?

The first nickname cannot be changed. Use 3 to 16 characters with letters, numbers, hyphen, or underscore, and pick something you can tolerate on a scoreboard.

Do I pick a character before I queue?

No. The match is found first. Then the lobby lets players claim characters in list order, with no duplicates on a team.

Should I skip the tutorial if I played the original?

No. Testers called the tutorial good, and the sequel changed pick order, pitch size, Teamwork Rank, and skill timing. Complete it before live matches.

What are the PC specs?

Minimum is Windows 10 64-bit, i5-9400 or Ryzen 5 3500X, 16 GB RAM, GTX 1650 or RX 6400, DX12, 60 GB. Recommended is Windows 11, i5-12400 or Ryzen 5 5600, 16 GB, RTX 2070 or RX 5700. See System Requirements.

Is the full game free during Prime OBT?

Prime OBT is a scheduled test window, not the retail launch. The shipping product is a premium paid title, with Game Pass Day One promised at launch.

Where do I find a squad?

Use the official Discord from the Links Hub, then read Ranked and Clubs once you want a stable five.
