FreeStyle Football 2 Midfielders
Sanchez’s attacking flair, Chris’s engine, Jelly’s quirks — and why 5v5 dies without a real MF.
Midfield is the job that looks optional until the first time your team cannot get the ball out of its own half. FreeStyle Football 2 is 5v5 arcade football with one Agent per character and AI keepers. There is no spare central midfielder covering for you. If you pick MF, you are the connection between the defender who just won the ball and the forward who needs it now, not in three seconds. This page covers the public MF identities from CBT 7 — Sanchez, Chris, and Jelly — plus how those kits should be drafted. The retail game is still upcoming. Prime OBT runs 4–8 September 2026.
Start with the players hub if you need the full roster map, and with the tier list if you want the closed-beta popularity snapshot. New Agents should still read Getting Started and how to play before they try to rainbow-flick through a ranked queue that is not open yet.
What midfield does on a small pitch
A 5v5 pitch is short. That does not make the midfielder a second forward. It makes the midfielder the Agent who decides whether a turnover becomes a shot or a cheap goal the other way. You will:
- Receive from a defender under pressure and play forward, not sideways into a dead end.
- Arrive as the second runner when a FW holds the ball.
- Be first into the tackle when a Queen Swift-style blink leaves your back line exposed.
- Save Freestyle ultimates for a pass or a strike that actually changes the half, because cooldowns are long.
Visible stats in tests include defense, speed, passing, strength, dribbling, and shooting. Mentality, Physicality, and Technical customization is promised at launch and was not fully in CBT, so do not overfit a CBT slider you will not have in Prime OBT. Clutch passives and Key Moves are the everyday tools. The two Freestyle ultimates are the once-or-twice-a-half punches.
Teamwork Rank exists specifically to reward passing and defensive work. A midfielder who only dribbles is the original FreeStyle Football problem in a new coat of paint. Clubs will notice. See ranked and clubs when that ladder is more than a test playlist.
Sanchez
Sanchez is an attacking midfielder from Mexico with rainbow-style flair. Official intros put him in MF, not FW, even though the highlight clips look like a number ten who wants to finish. Play him as the Agent who receives between the lines, beats the first marker with a skill, and then chooses: shot, slip pass to Queen Swift, or layoff to Butter.
Sanchez is the creative MF in public hands-on chatter. That is not the same as “always pick Sanchez.” If your team already took both named forwards, Sanchez can occupy the last line of attack. If your team took no defender, Sanchez will not magically become Mukamba. He is a flair player. Leave him on an island and the other team walks through the space he abandoned.
Draft him when:
- You personally like skill-move football more than holding midfield.
- Someone else already looks like a real DF or a disciplined Chris.
- You can live with missing a tackle because you were still facing the wrong way after a rainbow.
Skip him when you are the only Agent willing to defend. The tier list can like a creative MF and still warn you that a creative MF without cover is a 5v4 waiting to happen.
Chris
Chris is the other named MF from CBT 7. Public hands-on clips treat him as a more conventional engine than Sanchez: box-to-box mileage, comfortable tackling, less need to be the star of the GIF. That is valuable on a pitch where four teammates will happily ignore the second ball.
Play Chris if you:
- Want to connect a Mukamba or Tarantula clearance to a Queen Swift run without needing a highlight.
- Are willing to make the ugly recovery sprint.
- Like being the Agent who arrives for Butter’s Quick Delivery Service and actually shoots it.
This wiki will not invent a Freestyle name or a fake stat spread for Chris. Official player intros exist; detailed numbers do not belong here until they are public and stable. If Prime OBT changes his kit, the updates hub and Prime OBT pages will say so before this paragraph pretends to be a patch note.
Jelly
Jelly is the quirky MF. In the Korean build she is voiced by Kim Ye-rim, and the personality is the point of the intro: playful, not a stoic captain. Public clips show unusual, arcade passing tools — bounce-style balls that look closer to a street trick than a textbook six-yard pass. Testers argue about how “real” that should feel. For this wiki the useful question is simpler: can your teammates read the pass?
Play Jelly if you enjoy forcing the other team to guess the angle and you have a FW who will attack the bounce instead of standing still. Do not play Jelly if your Discord already tilts when a pass is not a straight ground ball. Unique is not the same as free. Long cooldowns still apply to Freestyle ultimates, and a quirky pass into nobody is just a turnover.
Jelly’s exact Key Moves are not padded out here with invented names. Watch the official intros, then spend a practice half learning the timing. The controls page covers the shared inputs; character-specific tricks still need reps.
Drafting midfield after the queue
Picks happen after the queue. Order is from the top of the list. No duplicates on a team. If Sanchez is gone, Chris is not a downgrade so much as a different assignment. If both named MFs are gone and Jelly is still there, take her only if you can live with the quirk. If the entire MF row is empty, you are drafting a forward or a defender into a hybrid job — and you should say that in voice chat before kickoff.
Demo access was six starters plus two unlocks with Riyal via the Lounge Favor Gauge and contracts, with slots resetting after matches. Do not treat a demo contract as a launch main. Launch is still aimed at twelve unique characters. QRI (also Curie), Korea street dancer Kwon Gyuri, is a later reveal with a rhythm and flexibility identity; this page will not force her into MF until official notes do. Lena is a Prime OBT character (LN / 레나) with the same rule: no invented position.
Power-creep fear from the original FreeStyle Football is real. A later midfielder with a flashier ultimate should not automatically delete Sanchez. If it does, that is a design problem to track on the updates hub, not a reason to ignore CBT 7 names today.
Keep the thirds connected
Midfielders lose matches by falling in love with the ball. Look at the maps so you know where the safe receive spots actually are. Use story mode if you want personality; use a real match if you want passing angles. Confirm your rig on system requirements and your SKU on editions. Official channels live on the links hub. The guides hub and the tools hub cover everything that is not a named character.
When Prime OBT opens, your job as MF is still the same sentence: get the ball from a defender to a forward without turning it over, and be the first body back when it does. Sanchez can decorate that sentence. Chris can stabilize it. Jelly can make it weird in a useful way. None of them replace a plan. Check the demo recap for what testers already broke, then come back to the players hub after the twelve-character list is no longer a rumor.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers for Agents heading into Prime OBT and launch.
Which midfielders were in CBT 7?
Sanchez (Mexico, attacking mid, rainbow-style flair), Chris, and Jelly (quirky; Kim Ye-rim in the Korean build). See the players hub for the rest of the seven.
Is Sanchez a forward?
Official intros list him as MF. He plays like a creative number ten, but he is not Queen Swift or Butter. Pair him with a real forward unless the draft leaves you no choice.
Should every team pick a midfielder?
In 5v5, someone has to connect the halves. Two forwards and no MF often dies on the first turnover. Read how to play for spacing.
Is QRI a midfielder?
Not confirmed here. QRI is Kwon Gyuri with a rhythm and flexibility identity. This page will not invent a position. Watch the Prime OBT notes.
How do I unlock extra characters in the demo?
Six starters, two more with Riyal through the Lounge Favor Gauge and contracts. Extra slots reset after matches. Launch collection rules are not the same as the demo.
Where does Sanchez sit on the tier list?
As a creative MF in closed-beta / demo chatter, not as a launch gospel pick. The tier list explains sample size and patch risk.
